Iyanna worked as a foster mom and had a two-year-old girl of her own.

Iyanna took her time going through the program.

After a few months, it was time to launch her business.

But that’s when Iyanna faced her biggest challenge yet.

Iyanna was terrified to reach out to potential clients because she didn’t have any experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

She felt like an “imposter.”

“There were other bookkeepers in my niche already who had more experience. I thought, ‘Who am I to do this?’ I felt like everyone already had a dance partner, and I wasn’t good enough.”

To help her get over that fear, Iyanna used a trick she learned from Bookkeeper Business Launch.

She asked a friend to be her “beta tester.” In other words, she offered to do her friend’s books free for two months. That way, Iyanna could get experience and build her confidence.

After a few weeks, Iyanna’s friend was thrilled. So much so that she put up a post on Facebook telling other business owners to hire Iyanna.

From there, the clients came pouring in.

“At first, things were slow. Then I got the beta tester who began recommending me to people. I began to get a new client every month. That’s when I realized this was a real business.*”

Clients continued to reach out to Iyanna.

By early 2017, about 6 months after launching her business, she was up to 5 clients.

And from there, Iyanna’s income took-off.

“In the first quarter or 2017, my bookkeeping business made more than it did in all of 2016.”

Even though her career is exploding, her primary focus is spending time with her daughter.

“I work about 20 hours a week. I’m not a ‘hustle hustle’ girl. I have a little one, so I can’t afford to work nonstop. So I won’t work when she’s home. And I know when to take time to myself.”
