After a year serving overseas for the National Guard, Daniel came home to his wife.

Sadly though, he barely got to see her.

She was working 80 hours a week at a job she didn’t like, while he worked full-time as well.

Plus Daniel had National Guard duty that pulled him away many nights and weekends.

All this meant that they hardly had any time together.

Daniel knew SOMETHING had to change. He thought if he built a successful business, he and his wife could quit their jobs and spend more time together.

And starting a business where I could work from home seemed cool. It would give me more opportunity to be with her.”

From the start, Daniel knew he wanted a tax or accounting business.

At the time, he was working for Liberty Tax. He didn’t like the $10/hour salary, but he did enjoy the work.

The trouble was, Daniel had no clue about how to get started.

He looked into starting a franchise like H&R Block. But those required an up-front investment to the tune of $40,000, which he didn’t have.

So Daniel began to look for alternatives. That led him to discover Bookkeeper Business Launch.

After reading a few blogs and watching the introductory videos, he realized it was exactly what he was looking for.

Daniel knew he wanted something that would show him how to do bookkeeper, plus show him how to start a business from scratch.

Daniel joined Bookkeeper Business Launch in April 2016.

The first thing Daniel learned was how to do bookkeeping. Which was important because although he was familiar with taxes, he had zero experience with bookkeeping!

“I had never done bookkeeping. So it was good to get refreshed on those principles.”

Even more important was the step-by-step lessons on how to launch a bookkeeping business.

Being an entrepreneur was new to Daniel and he had no clue how to start.

“I was completely ignorant when it came to sales funnels, lead magnets, and marketing. I didn’t know how that all worked. But Ben’s process for it was cool.”

Daniel went through Bookkeeper Business Launch and began implementing what he learned. Within three months, he quit his job to focus more on his business!

The part of Bookkeeper Business Launch that Daniel spent the most time on was landing clients.

He learned several different methods to do this in the program. The one that worked best for him was the “LinkedIn Client Attraction” system.

Daniel wrote a few articles sharing bookkeeping advice.

He then messaged people on LinkedIn he thought would make good clients. And asked them to read the article and give feedback.

Once they did that, he sent them a short ebook that had even more helpful advice.

After they read the book, Daniel would schedule a call with them. Once he had them on the phone, he’d describe how he could help them.

They would often hire him then and there.

A month after launching his business, Daniel got his first job using the LinkedIn Client Attraction System.

By September — 3 months after launching his business — he had six clients. And at that point he was earning $1,200-$1,500/month.

This became a major turning point.

Daniel realized he would soon be able to cover all his family’s expenses himself. So his wife wouldn’t have to work.

“My wife didn’t like her job. It was a lot of work and stress. So I told her to quit because the business was becoming successful. I knew we’d be able to make it work.”

Daniel’s wife quit later that same month.

Since she was now free and Daniel could work from anywhere, they decided to take a vacation a few weeks later.

“We went to Rome in October for a week or so. I didn’t have to work much so we mostly got to hang out.”

"WE WORK WAY LESS THAN WE USED TO"

By the end of December, Daniel had 10 clients. This was enough to cover the cost of living for him and his wife.

A year later, he was up to 23 clients. Which meant he was now earning more than his wife did at her 80 hour/week job.

By Spring of 2018, Daniel had 37 clients. His “small business” had grown into a “mini-empire.”

Now, Daniel works half as much as he did as a full-time employee. Yet he earns almost as much as he and his wife did combined from their old, full-time jobs!

“I have 37 clients, and I work 20-30 hours a week. I have a lax work schedule, but we make enough to pay for what we want.”

"I GET TO SEE MY SON WHENEVER I WANT"

Having free time and control of his schedule has become even more important to Daniel.

Because in late 2017 his wife had their first child.

Since Daniel works when he wants, he’s never had to miss out on quality time with them.

“My son is always close by. I get to see him whenever I want.”

“It’s nice to go for a walk with my family at 2pm in the afternoon on a weekday. We enjoy the day and maybe stop by the pub for a drink. There’s no stress around having to do things or go to meetings. My life is very laid back.”

"I’M NOT CONCERNED ABOUT INCOME"

Now that he’s built a successful business, Daniel’s goal is to get his business to run without him.

He will likely be deployed by the National Guard soon. And he wants to make sure his family has extra income.

“My goal is to get as much passive income as possible from my business, then grow it.”

Daniel is already on his way, having hired 2 employees to do most of the day-to-day work for him.

For example, Daniel now has someone else pulling the strings for his LinkedIn Client Attraction System. This means he continues to get new clients even when he’s out with his wife and son!

As his business grows, he sees himself spending more and more time with his family.

“I’d like to live abroad in Argentina or somewhere. And be there longer than a month. I want to give my son exposure to different culture. That’s not possible unless you don’t have a job or have a business like mine that you can run from anywhere.”
